"I was working for a company that manufactured 14k gold wedding bands, bracelets and gemstone jewelry just prior to entering the kids jewelry business. I sensed that a market existed for 'better' jewelry for children.
With my knowledge of 14k gold jewelry, I started my company in 1978 along with my wife. She designed the line and I merchandised and sold it to children's specialty stores and independent jewelry stores.
We soon learned that were not just selling a nice product, but we were also creating and merchandising a whole new category for the marketplace! It was thrilling and professionally rewarding for me to be a pioneer in an industry that I loved.
Our assortment was highly focused and broad enough for any store to carry.
Each item was beautifully packaged and merchandised in point of purchase displays enabling each store to make a statement that they carried children's jewelry.
Over the next eight years we grew nationally and added chain stores such as the Zale's fine jewelry division of Bailey, Banks & Biddle, Macy's, Littman's Jewelers, K-Mart, Bradley's, Consumers Distributors, Service Merchandise, Caldors, and Hills. By 1993 we were in over 5,000 stores nationwide!
Although the merchandise assortment was similar in each store, creative individualized packaging allowed us to reflect the differing personalities of each store and location. Consistently, the top sellers in all stores were essentially the same!

"The retail children's clothing business has been in my family for over 50 years. My father, uncles, and cousins each had stores, and when I was very young my father used to take me to his store to 'help' him. I made cardboard boxes by folding in the corners. The highlight of my day was going to lunch with dad and drinking an 'egg cream' at the local luncheonette.
After college (I studied music and film-making) I fell in love, got married, and went to work in my father's store. I learned that price isn't the most important thing, but value for product, time and money is. I learned that to be successful a retail store must have the items that the customers are searching for presented in an exciting way, at a good-value price. Having my own store meant I could count on the American Dream: start a family, buy a house, and realize the fruits of my own accomplishments.
